Sabato 31 maggio e domenica 1 giugno, il Palasport Taliercio ospiterà le Final Four del torneo WABA Under 15 femminile - "Un canestro per Iqbal Masih Trofeo Sagem".
Il torneo dedicato alla memoria del piccolo Iqbal Masih, ucciso in Pakistan a soli 12 anni per essersi ribellato allo sfruttamento e alle violenze della “mafia dei tappeti”, si propone di sensibilizzare le persone, ed i giovani in particolare, su un argomento drammatico come lo sfruttamento minorile.

Oltre all'Umana Reyer (campione in carica e fresca della vittoria dello Scudetto di categoria), le altre tre squadre partecipanti sono Vipava, Janina e Cinkarna Celje (SLO).

Il torneo dedicato alla memoria del piccolo Iqbal Masih, ucciso in Pakistan a soli 12 anni per essersi ribellato allo sfruttamento e alle violenze della “mafia dei tappeti”, si propone di sensibilizzare le persone, ed i giovani in particolare, su un argomento drammatico come lo sfruttamento minorile.

Un fenomeno che al mondo riguarda 160 milioni di bambini e che anche in Italia si stima riguardi 340.000 bambini.

Un fenomeno che si può combattere anche attraverso campagne di informazione e sensibilizzazione come questa che la Reyer fa con la convinzione che lo sport possa essere un valido strumento per veicolare questo tipo di messaggi.

On Saturday, May 31 and Sunday, June 1, the Palasport Taliercio in Venice will host the Final Four of the WABA U15 Tournament, titled "A Basket for Iqbal Masih – Trofeo Sagem."

This event is not just about basketball. It is dedicated to the memory of Iqbal Masih, a Pakistani child who was tragically murdered at the age of 12 after speaking out against the exploitation of children by the carpet industry. The tournament aims to raise awareness—especially among young people—about the serious and ongoing issue of child labor around the world.

Partecipating Teams: Umana Reyer (Italy), the defending champions and recently crowned national champions, Vipava (Slovenia), Janina (Slovenia), Cinkarna Celje (Slovenia).

The tournament dedicated to the memory of young Iqbal Masih—killed in Pakistan at just 12 years old for standing up against exploitation and the violence of the so-called “carpet mafia”—aims to raise awareness, particularly among young people, about the tragic issue of child labor.

This is a global phenomenon affecting 160 million children, and it is estimated that in Italy alone, 340,000 children are involved.

It is a reality that can also be fought through information and awareness campaigns like this one, promoted by Reyer with the strong belief that sport can be a powerful tool for conveying such important messages.
